Assisted Living vs. In Home Care Services

While many seniors may enjoy the freedom of not having to go to work all the time like they did earlier in life, it’s also easy for them to get lonely.

Some may no longer have a spouse or family members living with them anymore. Friends from the past may have passed away or relocated.

While it’s easy to say “go out and meet people,” this isn’t always realistic – some seniors may be less confident in their driving, may not have access to public transportation, or loved ones to take them places.

If you know someone in this situation, they might be perfect for a senior companion, which is someone who is available to not only provide them with company but help them with medical needs and other assistance.

Senior Care Companions Services

Family members unable to stay with a loved one are sometimes unsure how to provide social interaction and make sure they remain safe by themselves. Their loved ones also may prefer to live independently rather than go through the effort and cost of downsizing to move to a new community.

So in these circumstances, senior home companions can be a good choice. Senior companions can provide personalized, compassionate care based on what a client wants and needs, including:

1. Medication Management.

If someone is forgetting when to take their pills, how many or which ones to take, or can’t remember if they’ve already done so, a companion can provide assistance.

2. Non-medical Care.

If someone isn’t able to get out and run errands, senior home companions can provide this. They can run to the store to get supplies or food, and then put everything away.

3. Light housekeeping.

Seniors with limited mobility may have difficulties with basic housework, so a companion can help with things like laundry or light tidying up. Sprucing up the place can go a long way to making someone feel better about their environment and circumstances – and the opposite is true too: a place that feels messy and out of control for too long will just add to the feelings of unhappiness.

4. Personal care.

Although a health care provider will be able to officially diagnose problems, prescribe or suggest treatment methods, companions can offer other useful services, including helping with walking, grooming and meal preparation.

5. Transportation.

Need a lift somewhere? A senior companion can take you to see other friends, family or loved ones. They can take you on errands, shopping, even to a favorite breakfast or lunch spot or perhaps a cultural attraction like a museum. Along with a shopping or sightseeing buddy for a better experience, he or she can also provide the role of an expert or an aide, and be ready to offer support for any medical needs.

Why consider companionship

Companion care companionship for seniors can be a useful situation, since the companions can be ready for any situation. They’re willing to work closely with doctors, nurses, family members or other caregivers to make sure everyone is communicating and focusing on the needs of clients. With this level of support from senior care companions, they’re more likely to stay longer in their homes and enjoy quality of life.
